HI and IHF merger a big possibility

first_imgThe sports ministry’s proposal for merger of the two rival hockey federations is an offer that neither can refuse.IHF president RK Shetty with HI secretary Narinder Batra. With both Hockey India and Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) embroiled in a legal battle, sports minister Ajay Maken’s proposal to expand the former’s executive board to accommodate members of the rival body seems a move to placate both bodies. As a result, neither federation can afford to reject it outright.”It is an honest effort and a good initiative by the government,” Hockey India secretary general Narinder Batra told Mail Today on Monday, a day before the two federations have to submit their responses with the ministry.Batra does not see much wrong with what the ministry is proposing.”We have no objections to it and our response will be on the lines of the proposals forwarded by the sports minister. We have had discussions among ourselves and have also talked with people in the IHF as well,” he said.Batra said Hockey India was willing to do its bit for the game. “It is a positive development and we are ready for whatever is good for the game.” IHF president RK Shetty was not so forthcoming on the matter, but indicated that the move was a step in the right direction.”We also want a single body for hockey in India. It is a new step by the government and needs co-operation from all three sides for the best results,” Shetty told MAIL TODAY.advertisement”We are discussing the matter, but the proposal is demanding a lot from us, without promising much in return. Even the name of our federation will be taken away.”I can’t say much before we actually submit our response. It will not be a decision taken solely by me. All my colleagues will have to be consulted,” he added. The ministry has given only three days for the two federations to respond and the hurry may be necessitated to show the Supreme Court that it is working to break the impasse. If its proposal is accepted, it can bask in the glory of engineering a solution.Otherwise, it can report to the court that one (or both) federations played spoilsport. By mooting the proposal, the ministry has lobbed the ball back in the court of the two warring bodies.last_img read more

Warriors beat Blazers to avenge earlier loss this week

first_imgTIP-INSWarriors: Golden State, 6 of 15 from the free throw line during Thursday’s game, made its first 10 Saturday, and went 23 of 28 overall. … The Warriors had three technical fouls in the game, including one on Durant for hanging on the rim.Trail Blazers: Lillard’s fifth 40-point game this season ties a career high. He also scored 40 points five times during the 2016-17 season.MISFIRED SHOTAfter Iguodala’s heave into the stands at the end of the first half, officials spent more than a minute at a courtside monitor before deeming his throw a “hostile act,” warranting an ejection.“Andre said he was just shooting the ball,” Kerr said. “It wasn’t a very good shot. Went a little long.”UP NEXTWarriors: Monday night at PhoenixTrail Blazers: Sunday night at home against Philadelphia. Thompson, who grew up in Portland as the son of former Trail Blazer Mychal Thompson, scored 32 points Saturday night to lead Golden State to a 115-105 victory.Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant each had 25 points as Golden State evened the score after losing at home to Portland 110-109 on Thursday.FEATURED STORIESSPORTSPrivate companies step in to help SEA Games hostingSPORTSSEA Games: Biñan football stadium stands out in preparedness, completionSPORTSUrgent reply from Philippine ‍football chiefThompson broke out by hitting 12 of 21 shots, going 4 of 5 from 3-point range. It was the fifth time this season Lillard, who made the go-ahead 3-pointer in the victory at Oracle Arena, has scored at least 40 points.Golden State avenged that loss with improved shooting and better defense. The Warriors shot 50 percent from the floor (40 of 80), and made 12 of 25 from 3-point range.Durant was 10 of 19 from the floor, while Kevin Looney was 5 of 6, and made his first 3-pointer of the season.Kerr said it made a difference on defense to expand his rotation to 11 players Saturday.“I didn’t like what I did the other night, playing eight guys,” Kerr said. “I thought everybody who stepped on the floor did a really good job for us.”Jusuf Nurkic finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for the Blazers.Leading 30-27 after one quarter, Golden State scored the first 10 points of the second, including seven consecutive by Curry. He was merely due.“Shots just went in,” Kerr said. “I didn’t think the quality of his shot attempts looked that much better. Realme 5G phones will be ready before India starts 5G services, says CEO Madhav Sheth

first_imgRealme is leaving no stones unturned to make its place in the Indian smartphone market. In fact, being a new company Realme is giving sleepless nights to competitors like Xiaomi, Samsung, among others. It has just been slightly more than a year that Realme entered the Indian market. Ever since then the company has launched several great phones in India. The company recently launched the Realme 3 Pro in India to take on the likes of Redmi Note 7 Pro. Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth has now confirmed that the company is working on 5G phones to bring very soon.Sheth revealed several details about the company’s take on 5G devices. Sheth elucidates that the Realme 5G phone will be ready before the telecom operators in India begin offering network services to the consumers. “We will be launching 5G services much before the operators… we want consumers in India to enter 5G services as such,” Sheth told the media in an interaction. This was reported by IANS. However, he didn’t mention the timeline for the launch of Realme 5G phones.Currently, 5G is being tested in India. Reports suggest that the Indian government plans to roll out 5G connectivity services by 2020 — that is next year. Some countries across the world are already using 5G network on their devices. Some reports suggest that the telecom operators — like Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea — will start 5G trials next month in India. The trial period may be extended by a year so telecom operators have sufficient time to stabilise the network before the official launch.advertisementEarlier this week Realme launched the Realme X in China.
