Laporte County, In. — A wildlife group has filed a temporary injunction in Laporte County to toss a special order issued by a state agency to allow rifle-hunting in state and federal forests. The rejected the request Friday from the Center for Wildlife Ethics on Friday. The center expressed concerns that the Indiana Department of Natural Resources is circumventing the legislature.Agency officials stand by their decision and say it was proper.Judge Thomas J. Alevizos said, “The court, being duly advised and informed of the current motion and pressing nature thereof, finds that there is no sufficient basis to issue a Temporary Restraining Order on an ex parte basis. The nature of the issue and facts relating to it are such that a hearing is required to fully address all questions.”The hearing is scheduled for Monday afternoon. The emergency order was issued in the wake of a mistake made by lawmakers that barred rifles of public land for deer season.
