Sports Editor: I believe Vince Young’s decision to enter the NFL draft early is a mistake. He’s to be congratulated for playing the game of his life to rally Texas from a 12-point, fourth quarter deficit in the Rose Bowl last week. Will he be willing to make the necessary adjustments to play in the NFL? Only time will tell, but he would have a shot at another championship, and possibly a Heisman of his own, if he stayed in college for his senior year. USC’s two Heisman Trophy winners, Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart, will surely be drafted ahead of Young, and rightly so. They’ve played as champions in a sophisticated football program that has groomed them to be very successful in the NFL. Vince Young is very talented, but a side-armed throwing, single-wing quarterback is not a highly sought after commodity in professional football. The NFL will eat up the sand lot style of football exhibited by Texas.
