Danny Murphy believes Liverpool will finish in the top four – so long as they keep Daniel Sturridge fit.Sturridge, so regularly sidelined with injury, made his first start since early October against Southampton on Wednesday night. He wasted no time in showing Jurgen Klopp what he has been missing, scoring twice as the Reds blew away their hosts to book a Capital One Cup semi-final spot.Klopp talked up the 26-year-old’s talents after the game, and Murphy claims the striker holds the key to the club’s hopes of securing a top four spot and Champions League qualification.Sturridge, who scored 24 goals in 33 games playing alongside Luis Suarez in the 2013-14 season, has made just 16 Premier League appearances in the past 18 months.Ex-Anfield midfielder Murphy, speaking on the Colin Murray show, said of the injury-hit ace: “I have said for a long time I think he is England’s most gifted striker.“He is a striker that no matter what is going in a game, I always feel like he can score. He doesn’t necessarily need service. He can beat people, he dribbles past people, he can score from long range.“He scores all sorts of goals and he is probably the only player I look at – a bit like Wayne Rooney in his younger days – who has that got that swag and arrogance when he plays. I don’t think it is a bad arrogance. I am on about complete belief in his ability.“We saw how good he was that season with Suarez when he played a lot of it without injury. It is a real plus for Liverpool [to have him back].“If they keep Sturridge fit, I’ll go as far to say they will finish in the top four.”

The Uttarakhand High Court on Wednesday dismissed the pleas of former Chief Ministers Bhagat Singh Koshiyari and Vijay Bahuguna seeking review of its order to the State government to recover market-rate rents from them for overstaying in their official bungalows. ‘Devoid of merit’A Bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice R.C. Khulbe turned down their pleas, saying they are devoid of merit and not legally sustainable. “The time taken in the review proceedings will not affect the duration of six months from the date of the order (May 3, 2019) within which the respondents were directed to pay rent dues as per market rate,” said Kartikeya Hari Gupta, the counsel for a Dehradun-based NGO, which had moved the court for recovery of rents from the former CMs. Both former Chief Ministers had argued before the court that before computing the rent dues, they should have been heard by the State. Countering their argument, Mr. Gupta told the court that this ground was completely false and baseless as their counsel were not only heard but specifically asked during the arguments if they wanted to reply on the computation of rent.
The fate of Indian Premier League (IPL) team Deccan Chargers — currently owned by Deccan Chronicle Holdings Limited (DCHL ) — could be decided on Thursday with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) opening the bids made by potential buyers and announcing the new buyer if all the criteria set are met.The cash strapped owners of the troubled franchise have put the team up for sale and auction bids would be tabled in Chennai. DCHL has been in a major financial crisis so it put the team up for sale after breaching IPL rules by mortgaging Deccan Chargers to various banks against borrowed funds.Failing to resolve the matter with the BCCI, the owners were left with no option but to put the 2009 champions up for sale. Reports claimed the expected base price for the bid could be around Rs 750 crore.Sources claimed that the likes of RPG Group, Jaypee Group, Peepul Capital and Adani Group were in the fray to procure the franchise. Deccan Chargers was originally bought by DCHL ahead of the inaugural season in 2008 for a price of Rs 428 crore. For a side that is one of only the four IPL teams to have won the prestigious title, Deccan Chargers’ fall from champions to the auction comes as a shock. The fortunes of the 2009 IPL champions’ parent company took an unexpected dip, affecting the team’s operations. To add to their woes, the on-field fortunes of the team too have been on the downswing since the dizzy heights of 2009. Following the poor on-field displays major sponsors too reportedly withdrew their association with the team. An overhaul of the management team too seemed to backfire leading to further crisis in the Deccan Chargers camp.advertisement

(Remember when he reportedly walked away from a $50 million deal with Comedy Central back in 2005?) So it makes sense that while droves of Canadian artists, actors and musicians have gotten their first big break after moving south of the border, the U.S.-born Chappelle took the opposite route: looking north to Montreal.
