Friends are making fun of me that what were you thinking, you’re Shah Rukh Khan or something?” Rahul told India Today.”Since Virat’s become the captain, he has stressed a lot on fitness and fielding. Lot of credit to how we field as the new Indian cricket team and we work really hard in the gym and nutrition and pay a lot of attention to that. For somebody like me who doesn’t bowl, it’s important to contribute in the field and I’ve worked hard on that, slip catching.”Rahul also shared how he had worked extremely hard on his white-ball cricket and that the format doesn’t come naturally to him.”I just feel I have been very luck with T20 cricket. Whenever I get opportunities at the top of the order, that’s the position I enjoy. I have had to work really hard at white-ball cricket. It doesn’t come naturally to me, I was a slow batsman, I worked hard on my game and fitness.advertisement”So it is very satisfying to see the kind of change I’ve have brought in my shorter-format game. I hope to keep improving and get that into Test cricket and ODIs as well, whenever I get the chance.”Rahul also said he was just trying to enjoy the IPL and not think about World Cup selection.”Worrying about it and thinking about it is not going to help me play, there’s already so much pressure. So I am just looking to enjoying the IPL.”Rahul also said the Koffee with Karan controversy hit him quite hard and he had started to doubt himself as a person. However, he added that it might have made him a stronger person though.Rahul and Hardik Pandya were suspended by BCCI and had to return home from Australia before the start of the ODI series after their sexist remarks on the TV show sparked a huge controversy.”Last two months have been very very tough for me. When it happened I had started to doubt myself as a person,” Rahul told India Today in an exclusive interview. “I was hated nationally and it was not easy. I always thought I was a good person and then I started to believe otherwise.””I couldn’t come out of home for I was not ready. Only played play station and all. I have become calmer and more mature as a result. It has taught me a lot and may be I have emerged stronger also,” he said.Rahul also admitted that coming out of the “shadow of Virat Kohli and Ab de Villiers” from when he was at RCB has helped him become a better player and take more responsibility head on.”2018 was magical for me as far as IPL is concerned. With a really good and balanced team, this year also should be good. At RCB I was under the shadow of Virat and AB de Villiers and here I am the number one and that has helped. Also Read | With World Cup in mind, KL Rahul promises to be more disciplined in IPL 2019For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports.
